In a 24-hour period, we were able to pull it off!
Friday afternoon, we collected donations of apples, muffins, peanut butter, and jelly from a local school.
Friday night, we drove around downtown DC collecting unsold salads, sandwiches, and wraps from Pret a Manger locations through our partnership with Thrive DC.
Saturday morning, we collected donations of bagels from Panera and prepared sandwiches from them.
Saturday afternoon, we drove all of the tables, utensils, and food items down to Franklin Square where we met with our group of amazing volunteers from the DC Volunteers meetup group at Franklin Square.
At 2:30pm, a line of people waiting to be served their meal formed as soon as we started pulling out the tables in the park!
Day of Nurture was an amazing success!! Our volunteers served a meal to over 150 people!
Thank you to everyone who helped us make this happen! We are beyond overjoyed.
We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity and the enthusiasm we received in the execution of what was merely an idea two months ago -so much, in fact, that we are actually trying to form permanent partnerships to make this event a monthly occurrence!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
