Day of Joy

Date: Saturday May 19th

Location:  Lincoln Park (Capitol Hill), Franklin Square, Dupont Circle

Event description: A circulating team that offers free hugs and laughter workshops to the surrounding communities.

Successfully completed with over 400 hugs spread across DC!


Spreading hugs and laughter throughout the parks of Washington D.C.

Saturday May 19th 

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Lincoln Park in Capitol Hill

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Square

3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Dupont Circle

Day of Joy Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Set-up Free Hugs station/Laughing Yoga Workshop in the Lincoln Park, Franklin Square, and/or Dupont Circle location
  • Transport yoga mats/blankets to all locations
  • Preparation of signs and notecards
  • Smile
  • Laugh
  • Hug hard!

Walking Directions to Day of Joy sites

Lincoln Park ( as known as Lincoln Square) , is where NE and SE meet. It is bounded by 11th Street NE  and SE on the west, 13th Street NE and SE on the east,East Capitol Street NE on the North, and East Capitol Street SE on the south, so there are a few ways to get here. The closest metro is Eastern Market (Blue and Orange Line) and the park is a 10-15 minute walk from there.

From the metro (v ia Google Maps):

  1.  Head north on 8th St SE toward Pennsylvania Ave SE  (0.3 mi)
  2. Turn right onto North Carolina Ave SE  (0.2 mi)
  3.  Slight right to stay on North Carolina Ave SE (98 ft)
  4.  Continue onto East Capitol St SE  (331 ft)
  5.  Turn left (151 ft)
  6.  Turn right, the park will be on the left.

Franklin Square is located in Downtown DC. It is bounded by K Street NW to the north, 13th Street NW on the east, I Street NW on the south, and 14th Street NW on the west. The closest metro is McPherson Square (Blue and Orange Line, I street exit).

From the metro (via Google Maps):

  1. 1. Head north on 14th St NW toward I St NW  (0.1 mi)
  2. 2. Turn right onto K St NW, the square is on the right.

Dupont Circle is a park located in the middle of the traffic circle and is at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave NW, Connecticut Ave NW, New Hampshire Ave NW, P Street NW, and 19th Street NW. The closest metro is Dupont Circle (Red line, Q street exit).

From the metro (via Google Maps):

  1. Head southeast on Connecticut Ave NW
  2. The park is located straight ahead.
