Who We Are

IN ONE DAY was conceived by three friends who have been inspired and nurtured by the D.C. community but made possible by you!  Living in DC and being involved in the community, we have evolved as artists, humanitarians, educators, writers, and human beings. IN ONE DAY is our unique way of expressing gratitude to our neighbors,  friends, and city.

IN ONE DAY is intended to be a project created by the community for the community.

Join us as we discover the many ways to engage the human spirit in acts of laughter, creation, healing, and connection within a twenty-four hour period.

Event Coordinators

Theo

Theo loves calling the Columbia Heights neighborhood home. When not at work at an international health nonprofit, you can find her singing the ABCs, dancing, laughing, and playing with some of her favorite DC residents with the Playtime project. She also loves to explore and discover the plentitude of talented artists and musicians, museums, cultural events and delectable foods that the district has to offer. Even after three years, she is still inspired and intrigued by all the cultural, social, and art treasures that can be found in this small district in only one day.  Her favorite get-a-ways in the district are the Fountain Garden beside the Museum of African Art and both of the Garden Courts inside the National Gallery of Art.

Yukari

Having studied painting and drawing as an undergraduate student,Yukari is an avid lover of visual arts.  In between volunteering at the George Washington University Hospital and working as a medical assistant at a primary care clinic, a coach for an after-school running group, and an intern at an environmental non-profit, Yukari is on a pursuit to learn and to make friends.  She is a proud resident of Columbia Heights, her favorite neighborhood in DC.  When she is not attending potlucks or biking around the city, she enjoys wandering the Farmers’ Market and attending openmic nights at Bloombars.

Heather

Heather began as a volunteer for the July Day of Nurture and joined the In One Day team as an Event Coordinator in August 2012.

Virginia Woolf once said, “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well”- and Heather could not agree more! One of her favorite pastimes is trying different cuisines. She is also a firm believer that everyone should have access to a nutritious meal. Three things that will always make Heather smile: Free Samples; A one minute wait for the metro; Sunshine.  Heather also enjoys exploring all the District has to offer.

Contributor

Rachel

A Mount Pleasant dweller and laughter extraordinaire, Rachel is a playwright and poet who has many-a-love affaire with D.C.’s trees (especially the one outside her front porch). She has been a D.C. resident for the past three years while completing her MFA in Playwriting at Catholic University of America.  Rachel’s favorite get-a-way in the District is Meridian Hill Park, especially during Sunday’s drum circles! She believes in the healing power of a smile and the unlimited potential for transformation that lives in the present moment.
