In One Day is volunteering with Food for All again!

If you had been following us, we volunteered with Food for All for the first time a couple of weekends ago.  We truly enjoyed ourselves delivering groceries to neighbors in DC that we are organizing another round this Saturday, September 1!

The event happens every Saturday morning from 9-around 11:30am!   Check it out!

Volunteer with Thrive DC August 30!!

In One Day will continue its shift in gears to supporting existing programs in the community and spend an evening helping one of our partners: Thrive DC!

In 1979, Thrive DC began providing assistance for vulnerable individuals as the Dinner Program for Homeless Women.  Since its founding, Thrive DC has grown to provide comprehensive services to support individuals in acquiring fundamental needs and establish stability in their lives.  Services offered include laundry, case management, meals, computer use, and prescription assistance.

For the dinner event, volunteers will prepare and serve meals for the Dinner Program for Homeless Women as well as distribute emergency supplies.

To help, please arrive at Thrive DC by 4:00pm.   The event will conclude at 6:00pm.  Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes!!!

For more information on Thrive DC and other ways in which you can volunteer and help, visit their website: www.thrivedc.org

July 2012 Day of Nurture…check!

On July 28, we had our second Day of Nurture in Franklin Square.  Although there was a forecast for rain from 4pm when our event was scheduled to start, the weather was perfect -sunny and not excessively hot as it has been recently.  In the span of an hour and a half, we had served a meal to over 100 people in the park.  We also handed out water to people in the neighboring park.

Thank you to our sponsors for providing us with food and to all our wonderful volunteers who helped us in preparing food items, transporting the equipment to Franklin Square, serving meals, and conducting outreach.

We will be posting photos of the event soon, so keep checking back!

Don’t forget, after the second Day of Nurture…come celebrate the summer events and our volunteers!

Don’t forget to join us on Sunday, July 29th for the Volunteer Appreciation Picnic at Malcolm X Park. For those of you not familiar with the park, Sundays are very lively at the Park! There are a range of activities from Drum Circle and Dance ( which is open to all) ,  tightrope walkers, yoga, to  frisbee and  soccer/bocce ball, etc. We’ll bring our blankets and some food and we hope to see you there!  Feel free to bring along friends and something to share!

Food Donations for the next Potluck!

If you would like to donate food for the next Potluck on  Saturday, July 28th,  or if you are  connected to a local business who would like to donate, please email us at inonedaydc@gmail.com!
