July 2012 Day of Nurture…check!

On July 28, we had our second Day of Nurture in Franklin Square.  Although there was a forecast for rain from 4pm when our event was scheduled to start, the weather was perfect -sunny and not excessively hot as it has been recently.  In the span of an hour and a half, we had served a meal to over 100 people in the park.  We also handed out water to people in the neighboring park.

Thank you to our sponsors for providing us with food and to all our wonderful volunteers who helped us in preparing food items, transporting the equipment to Franklin Square, serving meals, and conducting outreach.

We will be posting photos of the event soon, so keep checking back!

Food Donations for the next Potluck!

In One Day DC is  a completely donation based project meaning everything we acquire for the event is out of the kindness of others. If you would like to donate food for the next Potluck on  Saturday, July 28th,  or if you are  connected to a local business who would like to donate, please email us at!

Day of Nurture, Potluck for the Homeless is tomorrow, Saturday June 9th!!

We are so excited by the amount of volunteers who have responded and that will be helping with this event!

Franklin Square is located in Downtown DC. It is bounded by K Street NW to the north, 13th Street NW on the east, I Street NW on the south, and 14th Street NW on the west. The closest metro is McPherson Square (Blue and Orange Line, I street exit).

From the metro (via Google Maps):

  1. Head north on 14th St NW toward I St NW  (0.1 mi)
  2. Turn right onto K St NW, the square is on the right.

Day of Nurture is next weekend!

June is just around the corner …. meaning it’s only 9 days until the Day of Nurture!

We are slowly accumulating food donations to ensure that every member of the homeless community who attends leaves with a full belly.

However, to ensure that the event runs smoothly, we need many more volunteers for the day prior and the morning of the event!

We need help with…

  • picking up food donations from local businesses on June 8th and June 9th
  • delivering food donations to Franklin Square on June 9th
  • helping serve the meal and engaging in conversations
  • performing music or poetry as entertainment

If you’d like to sign up to volunteer, please fill out the very short Volunteer Application and we will contact you immediately!
